Prepare Properly
You need to tape off your ceiling and baseboards before you decide to paint your house. Sandpaper the walls to ensure a smooth finish. Clean the debris afterwards. Protect your floors by laying down protective matting and newspapers.
Invest In Quality Paint
Don’t use the cheapest brand of paint. You don’t want to get stuck in an awkward situation. Imagine yourself moving all your furniture after painting the house and then realizing that you need to repaint. The brand you chose to paint isn’t good enough for the walls. Invest your money in good quality products that save you time and money in the long run.
Invest In Brushes
The price of brush range from $5 to $30 apiece. Cheapest brushes in the market don’t hold up well. Spend some money on mid –range quality brushes for painting projects. They can be usable for future house painting if you clean them properly.
Consistency
You need to consistent while painting. There are lot of rich colors that use pigment in the paint. These pigments tend to settle down at the bottom of the paint can. Make sure to mix the paint thoroughly to avoid any paint mishap. You can also pour all the paint cans in a large bucket to avoid a slightly different shade of color on the walls.
Coat Well
Imperfections on the wall can be camouflaged with good coat of paint. The color also stands out if the coat of paint is done well. It is a common practice to give wall at least two coats of paint. If you are going to apply the second coat then take some time i.e. roughly four hours. For oil based paint you may need to wait 24 hours before you can apply the second coat. Don’t leave your tools and paint uncovered between waiting interval. Keep them clean and dry. If the paint dries on the brush then it doesn’t pick paint as well.
Do Your Math
It is rule of thumb to buy 1 gallon of paint per 400 ft2 . Use a measuring tape to measure the dimension of the walls. Buy some extra paint for future touch-ups. But you don’t want to buy several gallons of extra paint to end up in the storage. So, tackle home paint job without going overboard.
Register your color
Instead of wasting your time matching swatches of paint, register your paint purchase. You can always go back to your account at your local hardware store to find the exact match for future touch ups.
